7 Important Things when Bringing your Pet to Camping

The autumn weather is perfect for taking your pet outdoors, and with travel restrictions due to the pandemic, many pet owners are taking their pets camping as a vacation.

So, what should you pay attention to when going camping with your pet? Here are 7 essential tips for camping with your pet.

1. Know your limits
First, you need to understand your and your pet's physical condition. If you or your pet are not fit enough or if your pet is already old, you should choose a campsite that is nearby or easily accessible.

2. Hydrate
When camping, the pet will have more space to expend energy, so it is essential to double the water supply.

3. Respect wildlife
In the countryside, there will be more stray dogs and free-range dogs, and even wild animals such as wild boars and cows.Everyone should be aware that they are actually the landowners, so never drive or provoke them.
Even if the dog doesn't usually need to be on a leash, you should still use one, because it can prevent the dog from accidentally wandering into wildlife territory.
If you really encounter wild animals, parents should not approach them to avoid being mistaken for intruders and attacked. If they don't leave, you should take a detour to avoid them.

4. Stay away from bushes
Bushes or areas with long grass are places where snakes, centipedes, spiders, and other creatures can be found. They usually lie in ambush in bushes, under rocks, or in trees, so do not let your dog run into bushes. Stick to the main paths.
If your pet unfortunately gets bitten by a snake or an unknown insect, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible. At the same time, the bite area should be placed below the level of the heart, and do not suck out the venom or perform bloodletting, and never apply ice to the wound.
If possible, please take a photo of the snake or insect, as this will help the doctor provide appropriate treatment more quickly.
At the same time, remember to deworm your dog and apply/use tick prevention products!

5. Sleep peacefully
Your pet should sleep in the same tent as you, because pets can be particularly sensitive in unfamiliar places. Any rustling or movement outside the tent might cause them to bark, disturbing other campers. If it's a large dog that cannot share a tent, use a separate pet tent. You can bring the dog's bedding from home, which helps the dog feel secure and adapt more easily, reducing disturbances to others.

6. Fireflies in the pitch black Fireflies in the pitch black
Before it gets dark, you can put a glowing collar and bell on your pet (especially for black dogs). In rural areas without streetlights, it can be hard to see and hear your pet at night, so this makes it easier for owners to know where their pet is. It also alerts nearby people that there is a dog around, because some people are really afraid of dogs!

7. Better safe than sorry
When taking your pet for outings and camping, you can prepare some basic first aid supplies, such as styptic powder and antiseptic solution, because natural environments have more sharp stones and thorns. In case either you or your pet gets injured, you can handle it. Of course, if the situation is serious, it's best to see a doctor as soon as possible.
